Answer: Hello there!

We know that Alexander worked 40 hours last week.

We also know that she wins $8.50 per hour, then in the last week he earns

40*$8.50 = $340

We know that there is a 7.65% social security withholding (which means that 7.65% of the total amount is "retained" and used in something else), so we need to obtain the 7.65% of $340

This is obtained as the percent, divided by 100% and multiplied by the number in question:

(7.65%/100%)*$340 = 0.0765*$340 = $26.01

So her employer needs to withhold $26.01 from her social security

This is just basic math. If she works 40 hours and earns $8.50 per hour then she earns (40 x $8.50) and you then need to take 7.65 percent of that.
