I would say that it affected slaves tradings because the Americans kept moving from here to there and everywhere, and also it might have gotten affected by the new and/or different routes and places.

truthfully both, but the economy was driven up north when they used the resources from the south and became factory driven. The civil war definetely divided the country on northern technology and ideals. after slavery was outlawed, northern technology was used on farms.
