Answer:

Option a,d and e are true statements.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Function f(x)=x^2-8x+5

To find : Which statements are true about the graph of the function, Check all that apply?

Solution :

The quadratic function is in the form, y=ax^2+bx+c

The vertex form is y=a(x-h)^2+k

To find vertex form we apply completing the square,

f(x)=x^2-8x+5+4^2-4^2

f(x)=x^2-8x+(4)^2+5-16

f(x)=(x-4)^2-11

The vertex form of the function is f(x)=(x-4)^2-11

The 'a' statement is true.

The vertex of the function is (h,k).

On comparing with vertex form, h=4 and k=11

Vertex of the function is (4,11)

The 'b' statement is not true.

The x-coordinate of the vertex i.e. x=-\frac{b}{2a} is the axis of symmetry,

So, x=-\frac{-8}{2(1)}

x=4

The axis of symmetry is x=4.

The 'c' statement is not true.

The y-intercept of the function is at x=0

So, Put x=0 in the equation f(x)=x^2-8x+5

f(0)=0^2-8(0)+5

y=5

The y-intercept of the function is (0,5).

The 'd' statement is true.

To find the function crosses the x-axis twice refer the attached figure below.

Yes the function crosses the x-axis twice.

The 'e' statement is true.

Both Andrew and Karleigh recorded the distance they ran in x minutes on treadmills. Andrew A 2-column table with 2 rows. Column
mars1129 [50]

Answer:

ex:Speed (S) is the ratio of the distance (D) covered to the time (t) taken.

That is, S = D/t

Suppose Andrew ran a distance D1 in 1 hour (3600 seconds) at a Speed, say S1, we have

S1 = D1/t

We can then say he ran a distance

D1 = t × S1

= 3600S1

Similarly, let's say Karleigh ran a distance

D2 = t × S2

= 3600S2

Let us compare these two, you will notice that the bigger number between S1 and S2 is going to determine the bigger number between D1 and D2.

Let's choose random numbers for S1 and S2 for clarity, say S1 = 5, S2 = 10

D1 = 3600 × 5

= 18000

D2 = 3600 × 10

= 36000

This makes D2 bigger than D1. this is an example i found on the internet.

Step-by-

hope this helps, good luck

Jackson has a gift card for $120 to use at a department store. he wants to purchase 2 shirts and 3 pairs of pants with his gift
mylen [45]
  • The domain of this relationship can be defined as,

0 ≤ x ≤ 60

  • The range of this relationship can be defined as,

0 ≤ y ≤ 40

Definition of Domain and Range

The set of  all the possible input values for which the provided function is defined is termed as the domain of that function.

The set of all the possible values that a given function can generate as an output is termed as the range of that function.

Forming the Relation

It is given that,

  • Jackson wants to purchase 2 shirts and 3 pairs of pants with his gift card
  • x represents the cost of the shirts and y represents the cost of the pants
  • The limit of the gift card = $120

Thus, the relation formed is given by,

2x + 3y \leq  120

Domain and Range of the Given Relation

We have,

2x + 3y \leq  120

⇒ 2x \leq 120

⇒ x\leq60

Thus, the domain is given by,

⇒ 0\leq x\leq 60

Similarly,

3y\leq 120

⇒ y\leq 40

Thus, the range is given by,

⇒ 0\leq y\leq 40
