Which of the following does not describe King Philip II?
Sonja [21]

Answer:

The statement that does not describe King Philip II is D. He was a devout Protestant, leading him to expel Muslims and Jews from Spain.

Explanation:

King Philip II was Catholic, not Protestant. Philip saw himself as the defender of Catholic Europe. He was thus an important figure in the Counter-Reformation, an effort to preserve Catholic influence against the Protestant Reformation. The Counter-Reformation began with the Council of Trent (1545–1563) and largely ended in 1648 with the European wars of religion. The Catholic leaders wanted to preserve their influence and material wealth. During King Philip II's reign, the Spanish kingdom reached the height of its power.
