I would suggest labeling the quadrants, plotting the points, labeling the points, and if you don't understand after that, I'm sorry but this is all I can help I hope it proved useful in some way.

Check the picture below, notice the ratios, from AP to PB

\bf \textit{internal division of a line segment}
\\ \quad \\

A(-6,-5)\qquad B(4,0)\qquad
ratio1=2\qquad ratio2=3\qquad 2:3\\ \quad \\ \quad \\

\cfrac{A{ P }}{{ P }B}=\cfrac{ratio1}{ratio2}\implies \cfrac{A{ }}{{ }B}=\cfrac{ratio1}{ratio2}\implies
ratio2\cdot A=ratio1\cdot B\quad \\\\\\
3(-6,-5)=2(4,0)
\\ \quad \\

{{ P=\left(\cfrac{\textit{sum of "x" values}}{ratio1+ratio2}\quad ,\quad \cfrac{\textit{sum of "y" values}}{ratio1+ratio2}\right)}}\\ \quad \\

\bf
\qquad thus\qquad \\ \quad \\

P=\left(\cfrac{(3\cdot -6)+(2\cdot 4)}{2+3}\quad ,\quad \cfrac{(3\cdot -5)+(2\cdot 0)}{2+3}\right)

Determine which numbers the equations can be multiplied by to create opposite terms of the x-variable. 1 2 x − 1 4 y = −3 − 1 3
Julli [10]

In the elimination method one variable is eliminated from the system of equation to find the value of other.

To create the opposite terms of the <em>x</em><em>-</em>variable-

  • First equation be multiplied by the number 12.
  • Second equation be multiplied by the number 13.

<h3>What is elimination method?</h3>

To solve the system of equation and find the value of the variables, the elimination method is used.

In this method one variable is eliminated from the system of equation to find the value of other.

Given information-

The system of equation given in the problem is,

12x-14y=-3         ......1

Let the above equation as equation 1.

The second equation given in the problem is,

-13x+23y=5             ......2

Let the above equation as equation 2.

To eliminate the <em>x</em> term, make the coefficient of <em>x</em> of both the equation equal.

It can be done by multiply the coefficient of <em>x</em> term of first equation to second equation and coefficient of <em>x </em>term of second equation to first equation.

As the coefficient of <em>x</em> of the equation 1 is 12.  Thus multiply second equation with 12. Thus,

12\times(-13x+23y)=12\times5

-156x+276y=60                     ........3

Multiply  equation 1 with -13 to make the coefficient of <em>x</em> opposite. Thus,

13\times(12x-14y)=13\times(-3)\\156x-182y=-39         .......4

Hence, to create the opposite terms of the <em>x</em><em>-</em>variable-

  • First equation be multiplied by the number 12.
  • Second equation be multiplied by the number 13.

If a 5ft post casts an 8ft shadow at the same time that a nearby tree casts a 48ft shadow how tall is the tree
Masteriza [31]
Here we would use the idea that the post and its shadow form a triangle and the tree and its shadow form a triangle and the side lengths of these two triangles are of the same ratio, ie. if the height of the tree is given by h then:
5/8 = h/48
h = 48*(5/8)
h = 6*5 = 30
Thus the tree is 30 ft tall
