The key reason for the ending of native civilizations in North, Central and South America was the colonization of these places by Europeans. One of the main factors was that the Europeans brought lots of diseases that Native populations had no immunity to. Another was the genocide of these populations by colonizers.<span />

Personally, I think it's because it was simple and free entertainment. Given that there wasn't a taboo around death and watching others die, and it actually being encouraged, like how it was in Anciient Rome, I'd say a lot of people would actually at least try out visiting a gladiatorial contest.
