The genetic information is passed from parent to the offspring with no genetic variation. This statement is true.

Further Explanation:

All the living things reproduce through a process referred as reproduction. The process of reproduction can occur in two types:

  • Asexual reproduction
  • Sexual reproduction

The asexual reproduction is a major type of reproduction in single-cell organisms like bacteria, protista and archaea. Some fungi and plants also reproduce sexually. In this process, the offspring is produce from one parent and also pass the genetic information from one parent. The offspring is exact copy of parent because there is no genetic variation. The common methods of asexual reproduction are:

  • Budding
  • Binary fission

The process of budding is mainly seen in hydra and yeast. It produces a very small bulge on parent cell that increase in full size and makes a bud. The nucleus of the parent cell is dividing into daughter nucleus and passes onto the daughter cell. The bud is detached from mother’s body by forming a constriction at the base.

The binary fission is a process which mainly used by bacteria to carry out the cell division. Binary fission is much related in concept to mitosis that occurs in the eukaryotic organisms (like animals and plants), but the purpose of both the process is different. In bacteria, the process of cell division is not just to make cells inside the body but they reproduce to make more population of bacteria. This process is mainly seen in amoeba.
