Answer:

New technologies make physical features less of a challenge when creating boundaries. Many new technologies have been created to overcome these barriers. For example, a mountain range was once an impassable barrier. Now we have the technology that allows us to fly over the mountain or tunnel through it. We have created heating and cooling systems that allow us to live in extreme climates, such as desert or arctic regions. We also build dams that allow us to live near water sources or store water where it is scarce. These technologies allow people to create barriers for political reasons, rather than because of physical challenges.

Before things like mountains were typically boundaries since they were a pain in the butt to cross. But with modern planes, and depending on the mountian, cars, mountains aren't as big a pain anymore. Deserts might have also been a boundary before. Today you turn on the AC and drive straight across it. At least for technologically advanced western countries, there really isn't any geographic feature we can't easily get around.

Why do people follow the crowd?
alexgriva [62]
People follow the crowd to fit into today’s society. Being social has become a major part of how the world functions now. Nowadays people have a mindset that makes them think that if they don’t fit in, they’re gonna be alone. But in reality you should just be yourself, people should like you for who you are not who they want you to be. Another reason why someone might want to follow the crowd is a possible belief that we’re better in numbers. Of course this goes for being safe in the physical type of world, but it also has something to do with the emotional world. Just being with someone might make you happier, no matter what you have to do to be with them. A different way to look at the situation is to think about expectations. People follow the crowd and try to fit into the world’s expectations in order to be looked upon equally. You shouldn’t need to do this. Be yourself. <3
