Answer:

The correct answer is B. The Adams-Onis Treaty helped prevent a war between the United States and Spain.

Explanation:

The Adams-Onis Treaty of 1819 was an historic treaty between the United States and Spain, which regulated the boundaries in North America between the two nations. The treaty was the result of mounting tensions between the United States and Spain over the position of the Spanish colonies in North America after the power of the Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain faded from the early nineteenth century.

In the treaty, Spain relinquished Florida to the United States, but the United States renounced claims for Texas west of the redefined border on the Sabine River. In addition, the further border of New Spain was determined up to and including the Rocky Mountains and west of the Pacific Ocean. In return, the United States took over all existing claims of the inhabitants of the territory passing to them against the Spanish crown up to a total of 5 million dollars.
