  The griot or jeli is a west African historian, storyteller, praise singer, poet or musician. Is the trustee of oral tradition and is often seen as a leader beacuse of their position as advisors of the royalness.

  Nowadays playing music is one of the most common functions of a Griot. Some of them travel internationally to sing and play instruments.
