Arielle has a collection of grasshoppers and crickets. She has 561 insects in all. The number of grasshoppers is twice the numbe
Daniel [21]

Answer:

<em>Arielle has 374 grasshoppers and 187 crickets</em>

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's set:

x = number of grasshoppers

y = number of crickets

Arielle has a collection of 561 insects, thus:

x + y = 561            [1]

The number of grasshoppers is twice the number of crickets, thus:

x = 2y                   [2]

Substituting [2] in [1]:

2y + y = 561

Simplifying:

3y = 561

Dividing by 3:

y = 561/3

y = 187

From [2]:

x = 2*187 = 374

x = 374

Arielle has 374 grasshoppers and 187 crickets

<u>Algebra I</u>

  • Coordinates (x, y)
  • Slope Formula: \displaystyle m = \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}
  • Perpendicular lines are the negative reciprocal of the given line

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define</u>

<em>Identify</em>

Point G(-2, 3)

Point H(1, -2)

<u>Step 2: Find slope </u><em><u>m</u></em>

Simply plug in the 2 coordinates into the slope formula to find slope <em>m</em>

<em>Line GH</em>

  1. Substitute in points [Slope Formula]:                                                              \displaystyle m = \frac{-2-3}{1--2}
  2. [Fraction] Subtract:                                                                                           \displaystyle m = \frac{-5}{3}

<em>Perpendicular line</em>

  1. Negative:                                                                                                           \displaystyle m = \frac{5}{3}
  2. Reciprocate:                                                                                                      \displaystyle m = \frac{3}{5}

R - 5 1/6 = 10

r - 31/6 = 10
  + 31/6    +31/6

r = 91/6

So, r = 91/6.

And, I am not sure if the second one I am doing in right or wrong, but I am just guessing.
I think you use substitution method here.

8(x-2)+9 = 14
8x-16+9 = 14
8x-7 = 14
    +7    +7
8x = 21
x = 21/8

So, the answer is 21/8

HOPE THID HELPS AND I REALLY HOPE THAT THE SECOND ANSWER IS RIGHT!!!!!!
