The Roman emperor was Constantine. He became the sole Roman emperor in 324. Constantine was also the first emperor to adhere to Christianity. Christianity began to transition to the dominant religion of the Roman Empire.This proclamation legalized Christianity and allowed for freedom of worship throughout the empire.
