After slavery was completely abolished in the North, African Americans did not live easy lives, for discrimination and prejudice were still a prominent problem. In the caucasian dominating Northern region of the United States, African Americans were considered free because they were no longer forced into slavery, but in reality they were only given limited freedom in regards to their political rights, social rights, and rights of expression.

People have an important role in Texa’s political system because the state is one of the 15 states of the US that have an “open primary”. This means that voters choose a party when they go to their polling place and request a ballot, its different than other states where voters need to register with a party in advance in order to participate in that party’s primary.
Texas also permits no-excuse early voting, this means that citizens can cast ballots in person at a polling place prior to an election without any excuse. Texas also allows voting rights to convicted felons.

In my opinion, this period of American literature is more innovative and rebellious. They're more focused on dystopian, and the writing style is less flowy, and more focused. Personally, I'm noticing a lot more acknowledgement of problems in society within books, seemingly because the internet has become a daily convenience and there's no more use banning books if it's message is probably going to get published somewhere else anyways. I like the is new period of writing, because ideas aren't being pushed back anymore.
