The 1848 Springtime of peoples were a series of republican revolts opposite to the European monarchies. This revolutionary movement started in Italy with a local revolution in Sicily in January 1848. France followed and soon the movement had extended throughout Germany, Italy, and the Austrian Empire. All these revolutions failed and were severely repressed.
