By definition, the Jewish identity is "the objective or subjective state of perceiving oneself as a Jew and as relating to being Jewish." In other words, being Jew doesn't depend on whether a person is considered as a Jew by other people, or by any organization.

The Jews managed to maintain their national identity because of their strong believe and certainty on who they are. Jewish culture says that they are "the people of God", the chosen ones to live in the promised land and so on.

Such strong statements might bring a people close together in a very strong way and a strong culture might bring a sense of unity that no one other.

That creates a sense of "Nation" within the people and if the whole people move to another land, so does the Nation.
