Domestic terrorism can occur when the perpetrator targets his/her own country. It is an act of terrorism within the territorial U.S ( or any given country ), that is dangerous to human life and violates state or federal criminal laws.

The goals of domestic terrorism are :

- to intimidate the civilian population,

- to influence the domestic government policy through intimidation,

- to affect the conduct of the government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping.

Some of the domestic terrorism threats are :

-animal rights extremists, eco-terrorists, anarchists, Black separatists, White supremacists, anti-abortion extremists, actions associated with the so called 'lone wolves' ( people involved in terrorist activities acting on their own ).

Domestic terrorism cases often involve fires, firearms, arson, explosive offences and crimes related to fraud.
