Describe the difference between the two ancient symbols Ma’atand Themis
Usimov [2.4K]

Themis was a goddess in ancient Greek mythology that was represented by Law, order and Justice.

Also, the ancient Egyptians had Ma'at who was a more or less likened to the Greek godesses, Themis.

Ma'at was known to carry both a sword and and a feather of truth.

Both mythology could be compared to the Roman goddess of Justice known as Justitia.

Difference between The Symbol of Themis and Ma'at

Themis is depicted as a woman with a sword on one hand and a scale on the other hand.

Her image is usually blindfolded and it shows that Justice is blind and does not recognize anyone however everyones deeds are weighed with the same scale and justice is served with the sword.

Ma'at on the other hand is depicted as a woman who is either sitting or standing while wearing an ostrich feather on her head and, in some cases, she was depicted with wings.

What effect would you expect the 1964 Supreme Court case, Wesberry v. Sanders, to have on the likelihood of a group of small rur
Anna007 [38]

Wesberry v. Sanders, 376 U.S. 1 (1964), was a U.S. Supreme Court case involving U.S. Congressional districts in the state of Georgia. The Court issued its ruling on February 17, 1964. This decision requires each state to draw its U.S. Congressional districts so that they are approximately equal in population.

Nationally, this decision effectively reduced the representation of rural districts in the U.S. Congress. Particularly, the Court held that the population differences among Georgia's congressional districts were so great as to violate the Constitution.

In reaching this landmark decision, the Supreme Court asserted that Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitutionrequires that representatives shall be chosen "by the People of the several States" and shall be "apportioned among the several States...according to their respective Numbers...." These words, the Court held, mean that "as nearly as practicable one man's vote in a congressional election is to be worth as much as another's."

Wesberry and the Court's later "one person, one vote" decisions had an extraordinary impact on the makeup of the House, on the content of public policy, and on electoral politics in general. However, these "one person, one vote" rules do not prevent and have not prevented gerrymandering.

A related case, Reynolds v. Sims, 377 U.S. 533 (1964), held that seats in both houses of a bicameral state legislaturemust also, to satisfy the Equal Protection Clause, represent districts as equal in population as practicably possible. The federal Senate was unaffected since the Constitution explicitly grants each state two senators.

Read the quotation by Abigail Adams.
MakcuM [25]

The correct answer is B) Adams believed that women had traditionally been denied a voice in society’s affairs and that this should change.

The statement that best describes Abigail Adam’s view on the role of women in society is “Adams believed that women had traditionally been denied a voice in society’s affairs and that this should change.

In the excerpt ,we can read that Adams is demanding for a better role of women in society when she says “In the new Code of Laws…Remember the ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them, than your ancestors.” Adams is considered a rebellion in case this won’t happen when she says “…We are determined to foment a (Rebellion), and we will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or Representation.”

That is why the statement that best describes Abigail Adam’s view on the role of women in society is “Adams believed that women had traditionally been denied a voice in society’s affairs and that this should change.
