The above answer is INCORRECT, at least according to Plato and a quick wikipedia article about Freud's thoughts of human behavior. He thought human behavior was IRRATIONAL, not largely rational. Everything else with the above answer is correct besides this part.

"Psychoanalysis was a method of treating mental illnesses, created by Sigmund Freud. He believed that human behavior was unconscious and that psychoanalysis help us to understand our unconscious thoughts."

Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist and he was the inventor of Psychoanalysis. In very simple words, he believed that our unconscious mind was more influential than we thought, and came up with Psychoanalysis as a way to help us understand our unconscious thoughts in order to make them more conscious.
