They always had imperialistic intentions and aimed to invade and conquer territories to increase their power and dominion. Kings and queens did not hesitate to wage war with other nations and kill and destroy towns in order to capture the land. Once they conquered new lands they jailed its former rulers or cut their heads to show their power and send a message to other rulers.
