<span>Lee's Army failed to retaliate after the Union attack during the Wilderness Campaign because the soldiers were exhausted from the fighting in the Wilderness without breaking. Due to this exhaustion, the army failed to retaliate. Most of the soldiers also burnt to death during the battle.</span>
<span>Aftermath. One year later, however, in Worcester v. Georgia, 31 U.S. 515 (1832), theU.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Cherokee Nation was sovereign. According to the decision rendered by Justice John Marshall, this meant that Georgia had no rights to enforce state laws in its territory.</span><span>

The issue of the exclusion of blacks from the voting system in the primaries. after the 1960's, however, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 entrenched the rights of African American voters in the political system, joining the political system for the first time in the 20th Century. As black people who had remained in the region became affiliated with the Democratic Party, so more White Americans moved towards supporting the Republican Party, creating a stark split.
