Shakespeare´s sonnet 116 elaborates upon the definition and nature of true love. The poet states that love suffers no alteration, it does not change; it stands fixed and secure like the North Star stands as a guide for sailors; and though time may pass, love does not wither away. Finally, in the couplet, Shakespeare states that, if what he has said about love is proven wrong, then he has never written not human beings have ever truly loved.
