Because in the 1400's and the 1500's there was a new love for culture and scientific discovery in Europe and this was called the Renaissance. During this time people used scientific examination to explore how natural the world looked. The discoveries during the Renaissance is what led to them wanting to explore "above and beyond' Europe and that's how they came to explore Africa< Asia, and the Americas.
