This process takes longer than land, which is why the beach sand is hotter than the water in the beginning of the day. However, at night, the ocean slowly releases the heat, while the beach sand releases it faster. This means the ocean maintains a more stable temperature than the beach, and also explains why the areas of land near the oceans have a more stable temperature (warmer winters, cooler summers) than inland areas.
