Repetition is a rhetorical device used to help an author or speaker make one specific phrase or word stand out to the reader or listener. Because the phrase is repeated, the audience remembers it better and that becomes a strong focus of the piece.
The reader can infer that Henry does hate what the war does to people.He cares about innocent men , women and children dying .He sees no use in the sacrifices made by a whole nation under war in order to win.He sees no gain in the act of giving one´s life fot your country, to defend the nation´s ideals .He is against the idea of the war hero as the reality of war is different and it is sad.
