Geologist may determine the density of earth materials by measuring the mass of the object and its volume.

What is density ?

The mass of a substance per unit of volume is its density. Density is most frequently represented by the symbol, however Latin letter D may also be used. The formula for density is mass divided by volume
Earth's density is around 5.513 g/cm3 if you average the density throughout the entire globe. However, if you compare the density of the Earth by its layers, you'll notice that it rises continuously from the crust to the core.

Greenland and Iceland are two islands in the Atlantic, located on high latitudes, but despite being very close, they are very different in many respects.
Explanation:
Greenland and Iceland are two islands located in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean. Iceland has been discovered by the Vikings, while Greenland by the Tuli, though the first Europeans that set foot on it and gave it the name are the Vikings. The names of these two islands are misleading though, and that has actually been done on purpose.
When the Vikings discovered Iceland and Greenland, they noticed the big difference between them. Iceland had far better living conditions. It was mostly green, covered with grasses and coniferous forests, and the waters around it were relatively good for sailing. Greenland, on the the other side, was almost entirely covered with thick layer of ice. There was no fertile soil for agriculture. What was not covered in ice was barren land covered with rock debris. The waters around it were also dangerous for sailing because of the icebergs.
The first expedition of Vikings decided to name the islands opposite to what they are, and the purpose of it was to make the next expeditions go to Greenland, thus to have less competition for the better island. The Vikings that settled in Iceland managed to survive over the centuries and still do nowadays, while the ones that got stuck on Greenland, after short and hard period of existence, ended up massacred by the Tuli people.
