1) Father fixed the broken window Pane (a)

A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. The term derives from the greek <em>"homo"-"same" </em>and <em>"phone"-"voice".</em> In the question above we have Pane that means crystal and pain that means suffering. The words may be spelled the same and are also homographs and homonyms or differently as the options mentioned and are also known as heterographs.

2) A dramatic monologue is a poem in wich a speaker other than the poet addresses a listener who speaks in reply (c).

Dramatic monologues are written in the form of a speech of an individual character. According to the literary critic M.H. Abrams there are three main features in a dramatic monologue:

  1. The speaker is not the poet and delivers the speech in a critical moment of the play.
  2. This person addresses and interacts with oner or more people but we, as the audience, don´t hear the replies. We must assume what the listener said only from clues in the discourse of the single speaker.
  3. The main sense of the poet´s choice is to reveal to the audience the speaker´s character and way of thinking in a manner that catch the attention.

3) In the sentence: "The man who liked to joke around with the Middletons was Fat Driscoll." There are no interrupter (d).

An interrupter is a word, phrase, or clause that <u>signicantly</u> breaks the flow of a sentence. Generally interrupters are separated from the rest of the sentence by commas, one in front and one in behind.

An interrupter is something that you can remove from the sentence and the meaning will not be alter. In the question above any removal of a clause  will change the meaning of the sentence.

I hope the answer help you. Regards

Select the sentence that correctly uses dashes for emphasis. (5 points)
Norma-Jean [14]
This is a really bizarre set of sentences, and I think the best way of finding a correct answer is through process of elimination.

<span>My baby-sister-dropped her nearly full bottle of juice in a mud puddle. Baby-sister-dropped is wrong here.

My baby sister dropped her nearly full bottle-of juice-in a mud puddle. Both of those are wrong, those words aren't even remotely meant to be grouped together.

My baby sister dropped her nearly full-bottle of juice-in a mud puddle. Juice-in is still wrong.

My baby sister dropped her bottle of juice in a mud-puddle. This is probably correct. </span>
