An Athenian was usually a philosopher and an educated Athenian would be a politician or a teacher. An educated American is a person who is educated to do a job and contribute to the society usually materially or work in a company.

The second one <u>is preserving national security.</u> They wanted the hole United States to have national security. Although not everyone agreed, it made it hard for them to get that goal started as a group.
