In his experiments with grass seedlings, Darwin covered the tips of some seedlings with transparent sheaths to see if.. OPTIONS:

Plant naturally grew toward a source of light. auxins were produced in the tips of stems. the presence of a sheath affected plant growth. OR auxins could be produced in the absence of light.

The correct option is this: PLANTS NATURALLY GROW TOWARD A SOURCE OF LIGHT.
Darwin carried out an experiment in which he found that when the tip of a plant is covered with an opaque material, the plant grow up straight but when it is covered with a transparent material that allow light, the plant bend toward the source of light. He thus, concluded that the tip of the plant is responsible for sensing light which is needed for photosynthesis.

Identify how the deletion of a single nitrogen base in DNA can cause a harmful mutation in an organism.
ra1l [238]

Answer:

B. Nearly every amino acid translated after the error will create the wrong protein after the deletion of a base.

Explanation:

Generally, mutations occur in two ways: 1) a base replacement, where one base is replaced for another; 2) insertion or deletion, where a base is either incorrectly inserted or deleted from a codon.

When a nucleotide is wrongly inserted or deleted from a codon, the effects of this change can be extreme. An insertion or deletion can affect every codon in a particular genetic sequence.  For example, given the code:

GAU GAC UCC GCU AGG. It is the codes for the amino acids aspartate, aspartate, serine, alanine, and arginine. If the A in the GAU were to be deleted, the code would become GUG ACU CCG UAG G. It won't produce any right amino acid.

So, if the code becomes changes, it won't produce any amino acid or will produce the wrong amnio acid.

_____ act as signals or markers to help cells recognize one another.
Varvara68 [4.7K]

Explanation:

-<u>Carbohydrates </u>act as signals or markers to help cells recognize one another.

Carbohydrates are organic macromolecules with a range of functions within organisms. They may act as energy storage, structural support, and signal molecules. Together with transmembrane proteins embedded within the membrane from the extracellular fluid to the cytoplasm, they form glycoproteins (proteins attached to carbohydrates) which function as cell surface markers .

Further Explanation:

Carbon, is the backbone of all biological life on Earth. It contains 6 electrons, with 4 on its valence shell, and thus, readily forms covalent bonds with other elements. Covalent bonding involves the sharing of electrons; in nature, this occurs with hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorus as highly flexible single bonds capable of rotation; rigid, non-rotating  double; and very strong triple bonds. Carbon compounds form rings, and long branched chains- thus, carbon can form macromolecules in nature.

In nature, organic compounds may be large chains of monomers form biological macromolecules which carry out many essential functions in the body. These can include nucleic acids, carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. These are organic molecules, meaning they're ringed or long-chain Carbons bonded to the elements oxygen (O), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P); they are found in essential organic biomolecules include, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates function to supply energy and support molecules they consist of mainly sugars or starches in long chains and rings to form monosaccharide monomers. They include monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides which describes the type of bonding and the degree of complexity of the polymers. Basic makeup: C, H, O -with many polar OH groups

In my opinion I think the main events of glycolysis. How many ATP molecules are produces and consumed by glycolysis? What effect
svlad2 [7]

Glycolysis uses 2 ATP and produce 4ATP. So the net gain is true.

Oxygen is used in the Electron Transport Chain as the final electron recipient from complex 4 cytochrome a₃.

Explanation:

Glycolysis is the process which is common in all forms of respiration where glucose is metabolized into pyruvate. This process is very essential to continue the next steps of different respiration. Glycolysis requires 2 molecules to process substrate level phosphorylation to convert glucose to glucose 6 phosphate and fructose 6 phosphate to fructose 1, 6 bisphosphate. But it produces 4 ATPs. Thus net gain is 2ATP.

In ETC, the hydrogen carriers NADH and FADH gives off the hydrogen to reduce the complex 1 and 2 respectively and itself gets oxidized. Thus the electron given off is transferred between 4 complexes to finally give off to oxygen to form water.
