"The Crisis, Number One" is actually a literary work done by Thomas Paine. And based on the excerpt above taken from this, the one that gives the best description of the author's use of figurative language is the second option. Thomas Paine is using metaphor here in order to illustrate the reason why America must acquire independence from Britain.

Explanation:

                          Frozen Daggers

She wore an angered expression paired with blue eyes sharp as frozen daggers.

Not worried about piercing you,

but rather how much you'd bleed.

Daggers that killed countless lives on a cold winter day.

Daggers that have been cleaned of blood by simply dipping them in the snow.

Making the knife as cold as the heart of the person who used it.

Daggers that killed ones it loved and cherished.

Daggers that show no mercy.

Daggers that stained the clean snow red that winter's evening.

Though the dagger wasn't kind, the winter day was.

Children played in the white flakes.

People built innocent snowmen.

Along with that they also built bonds and memories.

They built things they loved and not too soon after, lost.

Everyone played in the snow and built bonds no matter how different they were.

The winter day brought them together with to intention of taking them apart.

The winter loved them.

The winter thrived off of their happiness.

Joy was its source of life.

This is why her daggers are frozen.

She is the kindest soul to exist.

Yet she is not to be underestimated or you might just end up cut.
