During the colonization of the North-American Frontier during the XIX century, many settlers from the east were moving west towards Texas, which was part of Mexico. Back in that time, Mexico had a policy to encourage people to colonize and establish in the territory under the condition of learning Spanish and converting to Catholicism.

With that strategies, Mexican government intended to stablish outposts to protect the dwellers of the northern part of the border from the attacks and raids by some indigenous tribes.
