D. The narrator acts as though the situation is completely normal.

The use of authorial reticence in the story is seen from how the narrator so easily shrugs off the man hitting him with the umbrella, eventually dismissing it as normal and even welcoming it into his life, despite the situation's absurdity.

To be reticent is to not reveal one's thoughts readily. In this case, it is the reticence of the author. The author does not reveal their thoughts readily. If the narrator or author refuses to do something, it is made known that he is doing something. The something here is him refusing. If he acts as if the situation is normal, I'd assume he is acting in such a way that would be nonreactionary of the actions from the provoker. I would safely choose the last option as sorrentino's exercising of authorial reticence.

Describe the situational irony in “The Gift of the Magi”. How is this irony critical to the story’s theme?
Luba_88 [7]
The irony is both of them sold their most prized possessions to get the other a special christmas present, however both of their presents are designed for the prized possession each one sold.
This is critic as both characters realised that the other person would give up their prized possession for them to be happy. This is a key message sent by the author through this book. They are wise as they know that people should be more valued over possessions.

How would delivering a speech at a political rally differ from writing an academic paper, even if both the speech and the paper
Citrus2011 [14]
Well the target audiences are very different, because at the political party the speaker is trying to persuade the audience to agree with him/her where as the target audience for the academic paper are trying to tech their audience on the topic, also the thesis is more clearly stated in the academic paper.
