8(p+5)=24
8p+40=24
8p= -16
p= -2
first off you must get rid of the paranthesis ,so what you do is multiply 8 and p which gives you 8p, then multiply 8 and 5 which gives you 40.
Then on to the next step subtract 40 with -40 which leaves you with nothing ,then you subtract 24 and -40 which gives you -16.
after that you move on to the last step you divide 8p with 8p leaving you with just p,then you divide -16 and 8 which gives you -2.
this leaves you with the answer p=-2
once you get the hang of it gets quite easy
