If the title fits the story wouldnt it be the topic of the story, book, or movie. The title can mean so much to the story if it stands out to what it means 

When the story describes its theme. the theme is the life lesson so the title could express it more.
The title could help anyone understand why the story was written and how the author expressed his/her feelings
The title can help understand how the story and characters are expressed. When the title expresses itself it teaches the readers how it was written.

i think that may be confusing so imma just say:
the title is like the topic or the theme of how the story has been or is being told.

I mean the fact that the title helps a lot and when the reader looks at the title he almost knows what the story is going to be about! Hope This Helps!
