At high altitudes, the air pressure is lower and it is more difficult for us to breathe because we cannot take in enough oxygen.

Altitude changes the way your breathing functions. The air at higher altitudes contains less oxygen, therefore, you need to take more breaths to get the same amount of oxygen you normally would.
