Cornelius Vanderbilt initially made his fortune in shipping. However, in the 1860's, he saw opportunity in the rapidly growing railroad industry. He took what had previously been a fragmented route, largely between NY and Chicago, and cleaned it up. Lines were connected, trains ran on one grand schedule as opposed to many small schedules, and he instituted standard procedures for all railways. This lowered costs and increased efficiency. When things are affordable and efficient, expansion becomes easier.

Compare two approaches to spreading ideas and beliefs—trade and conquest. State which approach you think works better and why. U
Orlov [11]

Answer:

Trade

Explanation:

This works better because it is peaceful. Ideas are brought by trades and discussed among civilizations. When you conquest a country they are likely to dislike their rulers and therefore secret societies and counter-culture beliefs will develop.

Why did the U.S. government intern Japanese Americans living on the West Coast?
Darya [45]

Explanation:

From 1942 to 1945, it was the policy of the U.S. government that people of Japanese descent would be interred in isolated camps. Enacted in reaction to Pearl Harbor and the ensuing war, the Japanese internment camps are now considered one of the most atrocious violations of American civil rights in the 20th century.
