The Normans are an ethnic group that settled in Normandy, what is now a region of Northern France. They are a mixture of tribes and peoples, most specifically, franks, Gallo-romans, and Norse Vikings (this latter would be a form of ancestry to what is now the Danish people). As they settled in Normandy, there were further and continuous raids on these lands from Denmark, Norway and Iceland. The Normans became a distinctive and influential ethnic group during the 10th century.
