This was because Western Rome's armies were much too strong and maintained control. Constantine was overthrown by a Foreign Prince', and that was the start of their ruin. The empire, came to it's downfall because of the Prince's poor leadership. He had been successful at building a new political center that was unified in the East by the Christian Religion.
