Soldiers were avoided because many Americans did not support the war.

Explanation:

The US military promoted many atrocities during the Vietnam War, and the economic cost of this war was enormous. The American population disapproved of this conflict, thought it was unethical, cruel and unnecessary.

Without the support of the people and in the face of various defeats, even with a modern military arsenal, even using chemical weapons, the United States accepted the ceasefire in 1973, withdrawing from the conflict in 1975. The return of the soldiers to the house, was an event without animation because soldiers were avoided by the population as a result of the unpopularity of the war.

One reason is that the war was very unpopular therefore soldiers were seen as representatives of the war.
As well as some people believed that the soldiers had acted unethically and irresponsibly.
