Segregation affected people of color by forcing them to live in lower quality conditions  separated from white people.

Things like libraries, stores, and schools. This also gave them a lower quality of schooling and made treatment worse. White people were not negatively affected by segregation, at the time it benefitted them because they were given higher quality things.
