Copyright is an intellectual property right that protects original and creative works such as music, literature, photography, etc.
An infringement of copyright occurs when the owner holds a valid copyright, the accused has access to the copyrighted work and there is a duplication of work or it is used without permission. By law copyright infringement penalties mandate payments of actual profits and damages.
Using the case of Jenny we are given the following factors:
1.- Refers to a book written by her.
When you cite yourself you need to do it as a primary author, Jenny won't infringe any copyright law if she cited herself correctly.
2.- Lifted a 400 worded paragraph from a 550 worded article of a photographer.
When you summarize or paraphrase another person's words without citation it is plagiarism.
3.- Never inserted the in text citation.
Jenny didn't make any copyright infringement when putting down the words of her friend since ideas cannot be copyrighted, they need to be written down.
4.- Quoted the passage copied from the author's article.
The law allows to use quotations when the material under public domain and it is intended for fair use.
5.- Cited the copyright images
Copyright laws allow a limited amount of direct copying if the user is quoting material.
6.- Paraphrased three lines from a website
The content's creator has copyright on the work from the moment it is created.
