A poem with a slightly flexible rhyme sonnet which was not developed by Petrarch himself but was made by a string of Renaissance poets. a Petrarchan sonnet rhyme scheme is easily more fulfilled in Italian rather than in English language.

A Petrarchan sonnet is made up of 14 lines and this lines are divided into two with one part been an octave and the other part known as the sestet of the Petrarchan sonnet.  while an English sonnet is a sonnet that is comprised of three quatrains and a couplet. An English sonnet can also be known as Shakespearean sonnet as well.
