John Winthrop (1606-1676), American colonial statesman and scientist, founded several New England settlements. He obtained Connecticut's favorable charter and served as its chief executive. Oldest child of Massachusetts Bay Colony's first governor, John Winthrop was born at Groton, England, on Feb. 12, 1606.

Historians regard these letters as an important primary source for that time period because there isn’t much to go off of and letters shows a direct point of view of what had happened during that time and how slaves and most likely how women were treated like. (I suck at saying this but does it make sense?)
