An isolationist policy is one that is based around the idea that a particular country (in this case the US) does not want to get involved in the political or military affairs of another country. In order to do this, the US Congress passed a series of neutrality laws during the 1930's. These laws were aimed at making sure that the US did not favoritism to any of the countries fighting each other in Europe. The neutrality laws called for the following:

a) No selling weapons to countries already involved in wars.
b)No American ships should enter war zones.
c) Restricted Americans from traveling on ships that may be considered "hostile."
