His final transformation was to a rock and when he felt that someone is beating him, he wondered who might be more powerful than a rock and he saw a stonecutter - his very own beginning. So, being greedy and blinded by power and money leads to a destruction, if Hofus didn't let himself go so far and if he was satisfied with less, he could have lived peaceful and rich life.
