There is a 3 hour difference in travel time.
So if x is the speed of the freight train and distance is 240 miles...
3(3x)-3x=240
9x-3x=240
6x=240
x=240/6
x= 40mph for the freight train..
passenger train is 3 times faster than the freight..
3×40=120mph

Answer:

10 units

Step-by-step explanation:

In this equation the parenthesis act as a multiplier, so you take w(2w + 2) = 40.

the variable w represents the number 1, so you multiply the numbers within the parenthesis.

w x 2w = 2w

w x 2 = 2w

so now you have 2w + 2w = 40

add the w's for 4w = 40

Now you need to get rid of the number next to the W.

divide the four from the W and divide the 40 as well

4w/4= w

40/4 = 10

W=10

You have 12 CDs, but only have time to listen to two of them. How many combinations of CDs do you have to choose from?
nata0808 [166]
Total number of CDs = 12
Number of CDs that can be selected at once = 2

Selecting 2 CDs from 12 means combination of 12 objects taken 2 at a time. This can be calculated by 12C2.

12C2 = \frac{12!}{2!*(12-2)!} \\  \\
12C2= \frac{12!}{2!*10!}  \\  \\
12C2= \frac{12*11}{2}   \\  \\
12C2=66

This means, we have 66 possible combinations to choose from
