The literary device that attaches human qualities or actions to animals, objects or abstract concepts is personification. Personification is a figure of speech by which you assign human traits to an inanimate object. In this way, the non-human objects are portrayed as if they could act as human beings. An example of this could be The Beatles' song "While my guitar gently weeps".  "To weed" means "to shed tears" and we all know that guitars cannot cry.
