The question talks about how Oscar Wilde's humor is about people not being what they're like.

When you use that as a basis to define what references that sense of humor, it becomes simple to identify.

It can't be A, because there's nothing deceiving in the sentence. Same goes for the second one, although it is funny, nothing conflicts with the clear image presented in the option. The Option C is also clear and direct.

Option D, though, is quite different.

D.)“Well, my name is Ernest in town and Jack in the country . . .”

Here he plays with the idea that he is two different people. So he is not who he appears to be, at least for someone.

Letter D is the correct answer

Which excerpt from "The Lottery" most strongly suggests that the lottery tradition has become less significant than it once was?
katovenus [111]
The best answer here would be the last one: "Some places have already quit lotteries," Mrs. Adams said. This is the best answer because it implies that the lottery isn't as necessary as it once was. If it was needed, the implication is that they would still be going on in the area and not forgotten or not done.

While the others hint at the same thing, they aren't the best answers because they talk about the lottery overall, but only insomuch as it pertains to the lottery itself, to fill in the details of it.

Answer:

The rhetorical device used by Theodore is ethos.

Explanation:

The term 'ethos' is a Greek word which means 'nature or disposition.'

According to Aristotle's appeal, ethos is one of the persuasive technique that an orator uses to sway his audience. In this form of persuasive technique, the audience is convinced by the speaker through his credibility, character, or guiding beliefs that reveals the character of the speaker.

In his famous speech at Groton School, Theodore Roosevelt addressed to the young boys who were preparing for their college. In his speech, he advised the young men to include facts when talking about public figures. He educates them that they should not pass judgement on anyone without concrete facts. This reveals about his guiding beliefs and ethical character and that he is guided by the principle of ethics and does not speak about anyone without any facts.

Thus the rhetorical device used by Theodore Roosevelt is ethos.
