most mordern audiences are young so i believe that they would rather be listening to some up beat music instead of falling asleep in a old people audience
Most modern audiences had a difficult time enjoying and appreciating Twentieth Century classical music because they found it hard to listen to or understand. Younger audiences wanted something they could better related to. While rock and roll became popular, the African American community found itself in the "blues", something they could better relate to under their continued oppression. The popular music evolved to suit its audience in a way classical music had not.
