A student carried out this reaction with methane as the limiting reagent. A 12.0 g quantity of methane was used, and the student

collected 22.0 g of carbon dioxide. What was the percent yield?
Chemistry

Answer:

The percent yield is 66.7%

Explanation:

1. The balanced chemical reaction to obtain carbon dioxide from the methane is:

CH_{4}+2O_{2}=CO_{2}+2H_{2}O

2. Calculathe the theoretical quantity of carbon dioxide.

As the problem says that the limiting reagent is the methane, all the calculations will be made from this quantity:

12.0gCH_{4}*\frac{1molCH_{4}}{16gCH_{4}}*\frac{1molCO_{2}}{1molCH_{4}}*\frac{44gCO_{2}}{1molCO_{2}}=33gCO_{2}

3. Calculate the percent yield:

Percent yield = \frac{actualyield}{theoreticalyield}*100

Percent yield = \frac{22.0g}{33.0g}*100

Percent yield = 66.7%

In the levels of organization of plants, What are the 2 tissues and their functions?
Valentin [98]
Vascular tissue transports water, minerals, and sugars to different parts of the plant. Vascular tissue is made of two specialized conducting tissues: xylem and phloem. Xylem tissue transports water and nutrients from the roots to different parts of the plant, and also plays a role in structural support in the stem.

Imagine two solutions with the same concentration and the same boiling point, but one has ethanol as the solvent and the other h
defon

Answer: m = 0.42; Tb = 79°

Explanation: The relationship between boiling point of the solvent above a solution is directly proportional to the molal concentration of the solute, i.e.:

ΔT = K_{b}.m

where

ΔT is the change in boiling point of the solvent;

K_{b} is the molal boiling point elevation constant;

m is the molal concentration of the solute in the solution;

For there two solutions:

1) Ethanol:

ΔT = K_{b}.m

Tb - T_{normal} = K_{b}.m

Tb - 78.4 = 1.22.m (1)

2) Carbon Tetrachloride:

Tb - T_{normal} = K_{b}.m

Tb - 76.8 = 5.03.m (2)

Solving the system of equations:

Tb - 78.4 = 1.22.m

Tb = 1.22.m + 78.4 (3)

Substituing (3) in (2)

1.22.m + 78.4 - 76.8 = 5.03m

3.81m = 1.6

m = 0.42

With m, find Tb:

T - 76.8 = 5.03.0.42

T = 2.11 + 76.8

T = 79°

<u>Molal</u> concentration is <u>0.42</u> and boiling point is 79°

A jar is filled with water, and the lid is closed tightly. The jar is kept at constant temperature. What happens at the surface
nata0808 [166]
If there is a close container with some water, the following procedures take place.
Initially, the system contains only liquid, and air above it. As evaporation starts (the rate of evaporation is constant for the specific temperature of the water), the molecules from the surface of the liquid escape into vapour state, in the confined space above. Therefore, the level of liquid falls.
Then starts the process of condensation. This is the conversion of vapour into liquid. Initially, escaped molecules (from liquid state) move randomly in all directions and collide with one another. As more and more molecules enter the confined space, some slow-moving molecules are pushed back. They collide with the surface of the liquid to reconvert into liquid.
In the initial stages, the rate of evaporation (constant) is more than the rate of condensation because only small number of molecules are present in the gaseous state. The rate of condensation thereafter gradually increases as the number of molecules in the gaseous phase increases. Finally, a stage is reached when the rate of the two opposing processes is the same.
The state where the rate of evaporation becomes equal to the rate of condensation is called a state of dynamic equilibrium. In such a state, although the amount of liquid level in the container does not change, evaporation has not stopped and the system is not at rest. In fact, the number of molecules, which escape from the liquid to the gaseous phase (due to evaporation), becomes equal to the number of vapour molecules that return to the liquid
