Answer:

The Romanian revolution in 1989 was carried out in December 1989. It began with a demonstration in Timisoara in protest of the regime's attempt to sabotage the free-standing pastor Laszlo Tokes, who belonged to the Hungarian minority in the country.

The protesters were shot and more than 70 were killed. The turmoil spread to other cities, including Bucharest, where Nicolae Ceausescu was buzzing during a mass meeting he himself called in until December 21, 1989 outside the building of the Central Committee.

On December 22, 1989, protesters stormed during a new mass meeting at  the Central Committee and Ceausescu and his wife had to escape by helicopter. On the same day, the Nationalist Liberation Front founded a new provisional government. Ion Iliescu was President and Petre Roman was Prime Minister.  In the days following, fighting broke out between the secret police Securitate for several days in Bucharest. Over a thousand people lost their lives in the fighting, in addition to the 70 in Timisoara.
